So my Mom shared last sunday, and to be honest, I don’t even remember what she shared about (not that it wasn’t good), but this one verse jumped out to me sooo much that it outweighed the rest of the message…
firstly read the biblical extract below, then I’ll go into my explanations:
Genesis 3
1Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, unless you’ll die.
4And the serpent said unto the woman, You shall not surely die:
5For God knows that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art you?
10And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11And He said, Who told you that you were naked?……..

OK, so I’ll break it down :
Who told you you’re naked?…if you go back to Genesis 2:25, the bible says 25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed….so God knew they were naked, so what’s the problem?
In chapter 2, they were naked and unashamed. In chapter 3, they were naked AND ashamed…what changed? seeds sown by the devil…Essentially God was asking them, why are you ashamed? He knew they were naked, He MADE them naked, but where did the shame and insecurity come from because THAT, He did not make…and this is what really ministered to me.
Let me use the example of someone being overweight. God know’s you’re overweight, and He know’s that it has its health implications. You now become insecure and begin to “hide” because you are ashamed of your weight, and think you’re ugly…God would say to you “who told you you’re fat? who told you you’re ugly?”. Not as if to say you’re not, but to say why are you ashamed of it so much that it’s causing you to hide from ME!….as you grow with Christ, He will probably begin to minister to you that “you know what, let’s address the eating habits so my temple is being most adequately kept”, but IT WILL NEVER COME WITH GUILT, SHAME OR INSECURITY!….those things come only when the devil gives you his twisted version of the truth…
This is what God was telling me: those things that you’re so ashamed about yourself (whether physical, emotional, mental) that you won’t share with anyone or even me who created you, those things that cause you to hide…who gave you that shame and insecurity? because I sure didn’t!…Who told you you’re naked!? I know you are, I could have told you for free, but I could have also told you in love to make you grow, not fear to make you ashamed and hide…
So this is my question to you….what are you hiding? why are you hiding? and WHO TOLD YOU YOU’RE NAKED….?
well said and put….whats so funny is when you pray about the issues that concern you, you have such peace-it is the world we live in, that makes people feel insecure-you could love yourself but it is the slyness of the way the devil works, we have to always stay firm in that God does not make mistakes, we are all beautiful in our own rights…your mama was ryt! God’s opinion is the only one that should count, and hey if He is not ashamed of me, well happy am l!!! 🙂
The world sometimes tries to convince us that its opinion of us is the truth. This is the fact, any opinion of you that disagrees with the Word of God is a lie. Victory begins with acknowledging and accepting what God says about you.
When we choose to believe lies instead of what God says about us, we slip into depression and self condemnation. Believe what God says about you against all odds. God is calling us to change our thoughts, habits, character and choices. Life begins with the Word of God.
