We are Blessed Beyond Measure

I haven’t blogged in a good, long, while, but God has been stirring me to do it again so here it goes.

Ephesians 1: 3-14 – Spiritual Blessings in Christ

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

This verse has blessed me so much this morning and there is a lot I am praying as a result of it. I’ll just break it down in bullet point as I’m mindful of the time and have only 30mins to do this before the work grind begins lol.

• v 3: we have already been blessed beyond measure, blessed with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places. I take this to mean that our spirit man is overflowing in the abundance of gifts the Lord has for us. Why I said our “spirit man” is because Paul (the writer of this book) said we are blessed in heavenly places…hence we must in effect draw from our spirit that is seated in heavenly places with Christ (if we are saved), walk in the spirit, and utilise the gifts we have in the spirit. Spiritual blessings are not only prophecy, teaching, faith etc…I take every spiritual blessing to mean wisdom, health, strength, peace, love, holiness, righteousness…
• In actual fact, this excerpt of scripture makes a lot of sense if you read it with the parenthesis (brackets) I use below for emphasis:
  • 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. (In love 5 he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9) making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.***I am not saying this portion of scripture is not relevant*** but this morning I’m focusing on why we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing. Jumping down to verse 9, we get our answer: we have been blessed (the word lavished is used in verse 8) according to (because of) his purpose to make known to us the mystery of his will [which is to] unite all things in heaven and things on earth. Every blessing we have is to unite us with Christ; to place us in total harmony with the will of the Father.
  • The bible also says in Hebrews that we are to walk in the completed work of the cross (largely paraphrased and summarised lol). When Jesus said it is finished, he didn’t mean “I’m going to die now”. He meant what I came to do here on earth is finished. My purpose is accomplished.
  • What was his purpose? to make known to us the mystery of His will and unite us with the Father; to unite things on earth with things in heaven. Where are our spiritual blessings located? In heavenly places?
    • Through Jesus, we now have access to the great store rooms in heaven that contain EVERYTHING that pertains to life and godliness. We are now united to heaven by the precious blood of Christ, and we can walk in the fullness of heaven here on earth by utilising and laying claim on every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.
  • Notice also that these blessings are to unite us with Christ. Anything that you have received that starts to take you away from unity with Christ is either demonic by nature, or you are abusing it and using it incorrectly.

We are BLESSED guys…I hope this makes sense :/ I’ve typed it in 20minutes, but it thoroughly blessed me this morning. My prayer as a result of reading this was “Lord unite my heart with yours, align me to your perfect will. May I continue to walk in the fullness of every spiritual blessing that you have lavished on my life so that I may be a vessel in uniting others to you!”
