Mark 5:42 And immediately the little girl rose up and walked. For she was twelve years old. And they were amazed with great amazement.
A very simple verse, but why did the bible make the effort to specifically mention that she was 12?
This is what I got from it.
- She’s 12…at 12 you SHOULD be able to walk
- She did and was able to do what she should have been doing at that age!
And it struck me like this: At certain stages, and ages, and seasons in your life, there are things that you SHOULD be doing, levels that you SHOULD have attained, wisdoms that you SHOULD have gained, things that are expected of you at that place. The girl was 12. A 12-year-old is expected to be walking, and she did that which was expected of her.
It REALLY made me think
- OK, I’ve been in the Lord for just gone 3 years. What does God expect of me now, and am I there?
- I’m almost 21. What is expected of me at this age both maturity wise, emotional, etc?
- Second year of Uni, what is expected of me at this time?
- Am I doing what is expected? Am I meeting these expectations?
- What about the expectations I have for myself…am I meeting my OWN expectations for myself?
As people, we suffer from “shoulda-coulda- woulda-syndrome”; we look back 10 years and be like at that stage, I “should have” or “could have” or “would have”…OK…you are here now! what are you going to do about it? Essentially God is trying to teach us and made the effort to tell us that she did what was expected of her at the stage of life she was in. How many of us can say that about ourselves? Are we reaching the bar that God, our parents, and even WE have set for our selves?
This is a serious prayer and reflective point.
2 more verses then I’m done.
Luke 1:53 He filled the hungry with good things, and He sent the rich away empty.
Being Hungry is having an expectation. God will meet your expectation. If you don’t have one, you don’t get anything.
Pro 23:18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.
Another version says “the expectation of the righteous”.
Strive for more. Find out where God wants you to be at this season in your life, and GET THERE…
Where do you want to be at this stage in your life? GET THERE…
I cannot end this by saying make sure the expectations you are placing on yourself are HEALTHY and REALISTIC…it is better to not have any goals than goals that are too far-fetched. Some people say aim low, and you’ll never be disappointed. I say that is utter folly. Never settle! You will only go as high and as far as you imagine, so dream big and far, but dream true…
Love you all 🙂
